Overcoming Your Fear of the Phone

I’m willing to bet that I know what you’re most afraid of.  And I’m pretty sure it’s not spiders, shark attacks, the Boogeyman, heights, or even public speaking.  There’s a deep rooted fear that practically strangles everyone in business, not just network marketing.

And that’s the fear of that stinkin’ little technological wonder we call the PHONE.

The phone was a wonderful invention and has certainly changed the way that we communicate.  At this point, we’ve all had a phone for a very long time and most of us have multiple phones in our home if you’re counting landline and cell phones.overcome your fear of the phone

So, what’s the big deal?  Why is it so hard for so many people (including myself!) to just pick up the phone and call someone that may have some interest in our business?  Why does that hunk of plastic feel like it weighs 856 tons when we go to pick it up and make a call?

What’s the real reason that we all start to break out in a sweat, our heart starts racing and we start breathing like we’ve been running from the Wolfman for 3 hours if we decide that TODAY we’re actually going to make a phone call?

Everyone has a different reason.  Some of us aren’t confident presenting the business to people.  Some are afraid of rejection.  Some are afraid that they won’t know the right words to say.

And some of us are afraid that the person on the other end will actually say “Yes” and join the business.   Imagine that.

Now, I’m not sitting here telling you that I don’t have fears about picking up the phone.  That’s simply not the case.  I freak out every time I pick up the phone.

But here’s what I know: I know that every time I pick up the phone it gets easier.  I know that the more people that I talk to, the more likely I am to be successful in this business. The same is true for you.

You don’t have to be perfect on the phone when you’re getting started.  Trust me, you won’t be, so just get that in your brain right now.  Once you accept that, you’ll do much better.  You don’t have to be great, you just have to take action.

Taking action will do more to help you get over your phone fear than trying to figure out exactly the right words to say.  Pick up the phone and call that prospect and just ask them, “Would you be open to a side project that wouldn’t interfere with what you’re currently doing?”

If they say yes, great.  Send them some information or send them to an online presentation.  If they say no, that’s cool, too.  You’ve got more people to call and more money to make.

Get over your fear of the phone by using the phone.  Soon, you’ll be a phone-calling beast that recruits all the time.

When Are You Going to Stop Consuming and Start Creating?

I’ve got something for you today that I hope you’ll read and take to heart.  As I write this, we’re starting the first day of the second month of 2011.  31 days have passed us by this year already and I’d like you to take just a second and look back on the last 31 days.

Before you do that, I want you to promise me a couple of things.  #1 – Take a good look at your life the past 31 days.  #2 – Don’t beat yourself over the head with a brick if you don’t like what you see.

Got that?  Good.

Now, go ahead and play back that Betamax tape that is always recording in your head.  Why Betamax?  Because it’s better, unless you’ve got a Laserdisc recorder or something…create your own content

Look at what you’ve done in your life and business in the last 31 days.  Where did you want to be at the end of January?  Are you there yet?  If so, how did you get there?  If no, what happened and how can you fix it?

To be truly successful in anything, you have to spend some time reviewing your results and taking inventory of your actions.  If you constantly move ahead without looking at your results, you learn nothing.  You won’t know what worked and what didn’t and how best to move forward.

Take a good hard look and be honest with yourself.  Know and understand that wherever you are right now is totally, completely, 100% your responsibility.

And for God’s sake, leave your emotions at the front door on this one. You can’t afford to get upset and get down in the dumps if you’re not where you want to be.  This process is and has to be completely surgical in nature.  You’re evaluating the actions you’ve taken and what you did great and what you did terribly.  Don’t cry, don’t get mad.  Get happy later about your success, for now, just see what you did to be successful.

Once you’re done with that, come on back here and finish reading.  I’ll be waiting…

Done?  Good.  Now let’s move on.

If you’re happy with the results you’ve had so far, this is the end of this post for you. Move forward, fearless warrior.  Great things lie ahead for you.

If you’re not so happy with your results, keep reading…

I’m going to give you one piece of advice that I believe will help you get where you want to be.  You may not get there by the end of February (it is such a short little month) but at least you’ll be moving forward.

Take a look and see how much time you’ve spent consuming and how much time you’ve spent creating.  I’m willing to bet that if you’ve had some success, you’ve spent a good deal of your time creating something.  And by creation I’m not just talking about writing an article or a blog post.  Those are good things to do if you’re marketing online, but that’s not all of what I’m talking about.

Creation for you means that you’ve done something of your own work.  You weren’t relying on someone else or using their work for your benefit.  I’m talking about doing your own thing to build YOUR business.  How many people did you talk to about your business last week?  Last month?  How many blog posts did you write?  How many conversations did you strike up on Facebook?  How many phone calls did you make to leads?  How many people did you follow up with?  How many people did you give a CD to?  How many people did you send to a video presentation?  How many 3-way calls did you conduct?

Now, as I’m writing this I’m doing my own personal inventory, so please don’t think that I’m just sitting here handing out tongue-lashings to everyone but me.  I’m getting my own review right now and there are a lot of things that I’m not happy with.  I’ve done quite a bit of creation over the last 31 days, but not nearly enough.  And certainly not enough to achieve my goals.

The good news is that creation is a process that you have to master.  You don’t become great at it overnight and you certainly won’t be able to do everything you want when you’re starting out.  But the more you do, the easier it becomes.

Consumption on the other hand is very easy to do.  You just sit and consume.

Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s still a good bit of consumption that you’re going to have to do.  If you’re not feeding your brain, you won’t have anything to create from.  Consume when necessary, but be quick to create.

So, how’s the last 31 days look from your perspective?  If you don’t like what you see, despair not.  You can change that view starting today.  Take some action now.  And if you don’t think that what you create will be any good, don’t worry about it.  The first time you create something, it will suck.  Just be ready for it and accept it.  Then move forward to creating something else.

You’ll be great at it, eventually.  And the more you do, the quicker you’ll be great.

Thanks to the always awesome Ed Dale for inspiring this post

You Are More Than What You Have Become…

There’s a key to success in network marketing, one that you don’t hear about often enough. I’d like to take a few minutes today and talk about that key.

No matter what company you’re involved with, no matter what your product, this key will work for you. If you can really grasp this one concept, you’ll rocket to the top faster than you thought you could, all while doing less and being more productive.

It’s a simple concept, but is often overlooked by most new people that get involved in network marketing. We all focus too much on learning to say just the right things, learning all about our products, learning how to blog and write articles….all those things that we think are really important.you are more than what you have become

You’re told by your upline and your leaders that you need to go start talking to people immediately. And that’s 100% true. Don’t sit around and wait, get off your blessed assurance and start taking action.

If you’re going to market online, start using those techniques. Get on Facebook, start blogging, start writing articles.

Start making phone calls and handing out CDs or DVDs. Use the tools that your company provides, don’t just let them sit there and collect dust.

But, if you don’t grasp this one important key that I’m speaking of, all of these techniques will only bring you short-term results. You won’t build a business that offers you residual income. You won’t find true success if you can’t grasp one concept..

What is this one concept? It really is simple, but not simple to understand or overcome for the vast majority of us.

Here it is, in no uncertain terms…

The Only Thing Stopping You From Your Own Success Is YOU!

There, I said it. I didn’t want to say it, because I didn’t want to hear it myself. I wanted to blame everything else in the world for my lack of success. I wanted to blame companies and uplines, products and tools.

I wanted to sit back and gripe and complain about how much I was struggling to break through in this business and how everything in the world was stacked against me. See, I’ve never had real success at any business I’ve ever been involved with, whether it was online or offline.

Sure, I’ve made some money here and there, but I’ve always been stuck and couldn’t break through to that next level. And, until recently, it was always someone else’s fault, or a defective tool or strategy.

Not until the last few weeks have I fully come to terms with the fact that I ALONE am responsible for my own success or failure, regardless of what may be going on around me.

Now, it’s time for you to take a good hard look at yourself and see what is really going on in your network marketing business. Are you standing in the way of your own success? Are you at fault for not taking advantage of every opportunity thrown your way? Are you still drowning in a sea of self-doubt, unable to take any action because you’re so afraid of the consequences that your actions might bring your way?

Are you afraid of being successful? Are you afraid of what will happen if you actually do start making 5 or 6 figures a month in your business?

Only you can fix these problems.

One of my favorite movies is “The Lion King”. My favorite scene in that movie is when the spirit of Mufasa comes to speak with his son, Simba. Simba has run away from home and the mantle of responsibility that is his alone to bear. He’s run off, leaving behind the life that was meant to be for him, basically living the life of a bum.

Mufasa comes to Simba and tells him one simple thing. One heart-wrenching, ear-splitting, soul-stirring thing. i jump every time I hear it…

Mufasa tells Simba, “You are more than what you have become…”

I’d like to share with you today that YOU are most definitely more than what you have become. There is a life waiting for you that you were always meant to live. You are worth more than you believe you are. You are meant to have more than you do now and more than you think you can ever have. You are meant to live a prosperous, abundant life, free from the cares of having enough money to pay your bills. Free from the worries of providing for your family. Free from the burden of having to trade your time for money.

YOU are the only thing that is standing in the way of your ultimate success…

So what are YOU going to do about it?

4 Simple Steps to Becoming a Better Blogger

I’m assuming that if you have started blogging, you’re at least moderately interested in becoming a better blogger. At least I hope you are, especially if you’re trying to build a business with your blog. Just the simple act of blogging will not build you a successful business.

You’ve got to become a great blogger. You’ve got to be able to write blog posts that engage people and get them to take action, and you can’t do that without following a plan to improve your blogging as time goes on.

There’s no real tried and true system to help you improve your blogging, but there are some steps you can follow that will, if practiced consistently, greatly improve your blogging and help you build your business. Read the full story

Think You Can’t Get Leads with Social Media? Watch this…

OK folks, I know that you are hearing an awful lot about social media and how people are using sites like Facebook and Twitter to absolutely KILL IT with their online businesses.  But, I also know that you’re probably pretty skeptical at this point about the claims that you hear online, which is a good thing!

But, it’s one thing when you hear someone talking about the results that they’ve gotten and another to see someone actually doing it and showing you EXACTLY HOW YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

My friend and mentor, David Wood, just put up a recording of a webinar he did a few days ago that will show you EXACTLY what you need to do with your blog to start getting more leads into your business, and get them there in a hurry.

I won’t go into all the details here, just head on over to David’s blog and watch his social media video.

And take plenty of notes, there’s a ton of great, actionable content that you’ll see being used by one of the best in the market right now.

Enjoy!

Mike
