There’s a reason that 97% of people that get into network marketing fail, and they fail big time. I’m not talking about that they get started, make some money, then something happens and they get out after a few years and try something else, having made some bank in the process.

No, I’m talking about the fact that they vast majority of people in the network marketing business never make a single dime the entire time that they are on an autoship with their company. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

And it has nothing to do with having meetings, passing out CDs, talking to warm market, cold calling, or anything else. It has to do with one overriding factor that so many people overlook and is so important to determining their success in this business, and I’m just as guilty as anyone about overlooking it.

I’m talking about mindset. Specifically, I’m talking about having the mindset to win.

See, without really believing that you can and should be successful in your network marketing business, you won’t be. At least not for any length of time. You might have a short flash of greatness, but nothing that lasts.

You might recruit a few people and sell some product, but without the right winning mindset, you are destined to join the ranks of the defeated.

But, if you can have the right mindset, amazing things can happen. I’m going to share with you a short story about mindset, determination, and just flat out arrogance that allowed some people to accomplish something that they never should have been able to do.

As I’m writing this, Super Bowl XLV has just been played within the last 48 hours. Two iconic football teams, the Packers and the Steelers, faced off in an epic battle. But before the coin was ever flipped, before the National Anthem was sung, the game was already over.

The outcome had already been decided, and it had been decided by Green Bay’s head coach.

Here’s what happened on Saturday night: Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy had all of his players fitted for their championship rings late Saturday night.

Now, I’m going to pause for just a moment and let you go back and read that last statement one more time and let it sink in all the way. He had them fitted for their rings on Saturday night, 24 hours before they even played the game.

Call it what you will, arrogance, bravado, ignorance, complete nonsense, whatever. That one action put in the mind of every player on that Packer team that this game and championship was already theirs and all that they had to do was go out and take it.

When was the last time you did something like that in your network marketing business? When was the last time you did something completely arrogant to convince yourself that you are going to be successful in your business?

Have you taken a test drive in that dream car of yours? Did you go and get fitted for that suit that you know you can’t buy right now but you know will be in your closet?

I challenge you to get your mindset right before you take one more step in your network marketing business. Before you make another call, hand out another CD, or post one more entry to your blog, get your mind right.

You are more than worthy of having what you want in life. You deserve every dream and desire you’ve ever had. You are worth it, and you will have it. Get that in your head before you head out the door this morning.

And if you can’t grasp that right now, pound it into your head every day until you do. Don’t let you mindset be the thing that costs you all of your hopes and dreams.

I’ve got something for you today that I hope you’ll read and take to heart.  As I write this, we’re starting the first day of the second month of 2011.  31 days have passed us by this year already and I’d like you to take just a second and look back on the last 31 days.

Before you do that, I want you to promise me a couple of things.  #1 – Take a good look at your life the past 31 days.  #2 – Don’t beat yourself over the head with a brick if you don’t like what you see.

Got that?  Good.

Now, go ahead and play back that Betamax tape that is always recording in your head.  Why Betamax?  Because it’s better, unless you’ve got a Laserdisc recorder or something…

Look at what you’ve done in your life and business in the last 31 days.  Where did you want to be at the end of January?  Are you there yet?  If so, how did you get there?  If no, what happened and how can you fix it?

To be truly successful in anything, you have to spend some time reviewing your results and taking inventory of your actions.  If you constantly move ahead without looking at your results, you learn nothing.  You won’t know what worked and what didn’t and how best to move forward.

Take a good hard look and be honest with yourself.  Know and understand that wherever you are right now is totally, completely, 100% your responsibility.

And for God’s sake, leave your emotions at the front door on this one. You can’t afford to get upset and get down in the dumps if you’re not where you want to be.  This process is and has to be completely surgical in nature.  You’re evaluating the actions you’ve taken and what you did great and what you did terribly.  Don’t cry, don’t get mad.  Get happy later about your success, for now, just see what you did to be successful.

Once you’re done with that, come on back here and finish reading.  I’ll be waiting…

Done?  Good.  Now let’s move on.

If you’re not so happy with your results, keep reading…

I’m going to give you one piece of advice that I believe will help you get where you want to be.  You may not get there by the end of February (it is such a short little month) but at least you’ll be moving forward.

Take a look and see how much time you’ve spent consuming and how much time you’ve spent creating.  I’m willing to bet that if you’ve had some success, you’ve spent a good deal of your time creating something.  And by creation I’m not just talking about writing an article or a blog post.  Those are good things to do if you’re marketing online, but that’s not all of what I’m talking about.

Creation for you means that you’ve done something of your own work.  You weren’t relying on someone else or using their work for your benefit.  I’m talking about doing your own thing to build YOUR business.  How many people did you talk to about your business last week?  Last month?  How many blog posts did you write?  How many conversations did you strike up on Facebook?  How many phone calls did you make to leads?  How many people did you follow up with?  How many people did you give a CD to?  How many people did you send to a video presentation?  How many 3-way calls did you conduct?

Now, as I’m writing this I’m doing my own personal inventory, so please don’t think that I’m just sitting here handing out tongue-lashings to everyone but me.  I’m getting my own review right now and there are a lot of things that I’m not happy with.  I’ve done quite a bit of creation over the last 31 days, but not nearly enough.  And certainly not enough to achieve my goals.

The good news is that creation is a process that you have to master.  You don’t become great at it overnight and you certainly won’t be able to do everything you want when you’re starting out.  But the more you do, the easier it becomes.

Consumption on the other hand is very easy to do.  You just sit and consume.

Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s still a good bit of consumption that you’re going to have to do.  If you’re not feeding your brain, you won’t have anything to create from.  Consume when necessary, but be quick to create.

So, how’s the last 31 days look from your perspective?  If you don’t like what you see, despair not.  You can change that view starting today.  Take some action now.  And if you don’t think that what you create will be any good, don’t worry about it.  The first time you create something, it will suck.  Just be ready for it and accept it.  Then move forward to creating something else.

You’ll be great at it, eventually.  And the more you do, the quicker you’ll be great.

As of today, Efusjon is done with the MLM business, riding off into the sunset and leaving a lot of reps behind.

Most interesting to me is the statement about how the business has been declining for over a year now, all the while CEO Robert Towles has been saying how wonderful the growth has been. Sad.
Here is the letter that Efusjon sent out to it’s reps:

Dear eFusjon Distributors:

It is with great sadness that we announce today that we must cease the direct sales multi-level marketing business of eFusjon, Inc. as of September 1, 2010.

The independent contractor distributor agreements will terminate as of this date. See Distributor Agreement, Section 7 (“The Agreement shall continue in effect between the parties hereto until either party terminates the Agreement…”). Qualified distributors will receive their last compensation check for the month of August, less offsets against any amounts that are owed to the Company, on September 10th. Any commissions due will be available in your “Hyperwallet” account until October 31, 2010, after which date you will need to contact the corporate office (to access your “Hyperwallet” account please go to www.efusjonpay.com, or contact customer service for assistance). The Company will send refunds of the $30 membership fee to those distributors who became members in August 2010.

This was a very difficult decision for the Company and not one we had hoped to make. When the owners started eFusjon in 2008, we envisioned a unique and successful MLM business with healthy and unparalleled beverage products. The goal was to market these products through independent distributors via the MLM direct sales business model. Distributor performance, however, has been steadily declining for over a year now, and as a result, so has the Company’s revenues. The Company can no longer maintain a marketing model that is not generating the funds needed to grow a viable business. In short, the Company’s MLM business model is no longer a sustainable marketing strategy.

With a certain level of optimism, we also announce today our decision to explore other opportunities for the eFusjon product many of you have come to love. For some period of time, you may continue to enjoy eFusjon products through purchases (without compensation) on the eFusjon website www.efusjon.com.

Lastly, we extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of you for your dedication to eFusjon over the years and for standing by our product and the Company during the height of our success as well as through more recent challenging times. We share your disappointment about the recent turn of events, but are cautiously optimistic about the future of eFusjon and eFusjon’s unparalleled, healthy beverages.

It’s sad to this happen to any company, but it seems to be happening more and more. When things like this happen, it just reinforces to me that you should not only be building your company, but be building your own brand and business at the same time. If you’ve been around the online network marketing arena for very long, I’m sure you’ve probably heard of a little book called “Magnetic Sponsoring” and what people think about it.

I’m not afraid to tell you that reading this book was a major turning point for me and my business.  I’ve re-read the book 3 times now, and I refer back to it often, generally anytime I need some motivation for my business.

Magnetic Sponsoring is much more than just another eBook.  It’s a blueprint for you to follow in building your network marketing business online, and offline as well.  It’s a blueprint that has been used by some of the most successful people in this industry and the techniques have been proven to work over and over again, in multiple examples and with multiple network marketing companies.

And even though Mike Dillard released it several years ago now, the principles still ring just as true today as they did when the book was first released.

One of the most important concepts in Magnetic Sponsoring that you need in your business is the concept of attraction marketing.  And attraction marketing may by more important now than it was when the concept was first spoken about in Magnetic Sponsoring.

As the newcomers to online marketing fall prey to these fools, they get disgusted pretty quickly.  They get sick and tired of all the shallow claims and the crazy offers thrown at them on a daily basis.

So, one of two things happens.  A lot of these people simply give up and end their journey into online marketing.  They’ve been convinced that everything is a scam and there’s really no way to make a fantastic living online.  They’re hopeless, fed up, and just want to crawl under a rock.

The second group, although much smaller, decides to carry on.  But, they become much more selective about who they listen to in matters of online marketing.  They don’t go after the shady scammers promising them unlimited riches at the click of a mouse button.

They start to listen to people that tell them the truth, that although you can make a great living online, there’s a lot of work involved.  They start to listen to people that are being identified as leaders in the community, people that have built a reputation for helping others achieve their goals.  People who have probably read and implemented Magnetic Sponsoring.  People that understand the concept of attraction marketing and are putting it into practice in their business.

See, if you put into practice the concepts you learn in Magnetic Sponsoring, you’ll become the hunted and not the hunter.  You will be attracting people to your business rather than having to go out and get them.And as you’re building your reputation online, the number of people that will come to you will continue to grow. And that’s why Magnetic Sponsoring is still just as important today as it was when it was first released.
