With the state of our economy and with more people looking for a way to either make ends meet or to replace their income entirely, a lot of people are looking into the Internet as a way to start a business to make some extra income.  And it’s no surprise why, you see a lot of late night infomercials that talk about how to make money on the Internet or to make money from home, along with about a gazillion ads online that promise the same thing.

And there have been plenty of people that have been able to turn their lives around after starting an Internet business.  But there’s a few things that they all have in common that you need to pay attention to if you want to enjoy the same kind of success that these leaders have.

First, though, let me say that if you have the desire and the drive, you WILL be successful in any venture that you start.  BUT…. if you want to really get results faster than you ever dreamed, you really should be using the Internet to build your business!

So, what things do you need to know when you’re starting an Internet business?  Here’s 3 things…

Tip #1 – Make a commitment to succeed.  I can’t tell you how important this first step is.  Most of your success in any business is determined by how dedicated you are to pushing through until you’ve reached your goals.  This isn’t something that’s going to happen overnight, it will take time.  If you’re not willing to work for AT LEAST the next 12 months on your new business like your life depended on it, just stop now.  There will be times you want to give up, but you can’t.  Set your mind on success from the beginning and refuse to accept anything less than living your dream life.

Tip #2 – Make sure you are building a business that creates residual income.  I see a lot of people that start an Internet business that is built around selling something one time or around huge “product launches”.  The problem with this model is that you have to constantly be creating new items or a new launch.  Even with affiliate marketing, which is a great model for beginners, often doesn’t create a “walk away” residual income.  Focus on a business that will pay you over and over again for work that you do one time.  Which business is best for this?  In my opinion, there’s no better option around than network marketing.  It’s a proven business (over $100 billion a year in sales industry wide) and it leverages the work you do one time for many years to come.

Tip #3 – Follow a proven system and stick to it.  I’ve been online for several years now and I see so many people get hung up on systems.  The reason for that is that it seems like there is a new system that someone says is the next big thing and will make you millions of dollars.  People are easily distracted, especially when it comes to making money.  So they skip from program to program and business to business, looking for the path to success.  All the while, other people are following a simple system that others have used to make 5-figures a month (or more) and they teach other people how to do the same thing.  Wouldn’t you rather be able to follow a proven system that is easy for anyone to follow and WILL start building your business?  I know I would, and that’s exactly what I and a bunch of my friends have decided to do.

Do you really want to build a money making home business?  Are you sure about that?

Have you made the commitment to yourself and to your family that you’re going to do everything it takes to make this business successful, no matter how tired you are or how frustrated you get?  Have you finally gotten sick and tired of being sick and tired and you’re ready to change your life forever?

If you’re here reading this, I KNOW that you are!  And I know that you are looking for some tips that can help you along the way so that you can grow your business as quickly as possible.  I also know that you, like me, are starting out building your business part-time and you don’t have a lot of time to waste with a bunch of fluff.

You want some actionable tips that you can start using NOW to make a difference in your home business, and that’s what I’ve got for you today.

If you want to build a money making home business, here are 5 things that you absolutely MUST do in order to be successful…

Thing #1 – Discover your “why”.  When I was starting out, I really thought that I wanted to get into this business for the money.  I can tell you that if that is your reason, you will lose interest very quickly.  Find your “why” and make sure that it is something that will motivate you more than money.  Your “why” has to be big, incredibly big.  You’re going to need to know why you’re doing this business when you’ve talked to 50 people and NONE of them has taken a look at your business.  You’ll have many long days and nights and you need to know why you’re doing this.  All I have to do is turn around from my desk and see the crib that will soon be holding my baby girl and I’m very quickly reminded of my “why”.  Find yours and use that motivation to get going.

Thing #2 – Spend time each day in personal development.  Even if you’re starting out part-time, you’ve got to spend some time each day in personal development.  If you’ve been working for a wage for many years, there’s a lot of crap in your head you have to get out before you’re really going to achieve success.  Read some personal development books or listen to CDs or audio recordings.  Spend a little time each day building yourself, even if its only 15 minutes.  The payoff will be huge!

Thing #3 – Commit to work you business like a business.  If you’re going to have a business, it has to be treated like a business.  You have to work it every day just like you do with your current full-time job.  No calling in sick, no taking the day off because you just don’t feel like working.  That’s not a business, that’s a hobby, and hobbies don’t make you any money.  Get to work!

Thing #4 – Follow a proven system.  One of the worst things someone can do when they’re starting out is to not follow a system that works.  You may have some idea in your head about how to get things done, but you don’t.  There are a lot of people that have already build a money making home business and you need to follow that path that they’ve laid before you.  You don’t have to go and reinvent the wheel, just use a system that works.  If you don’t have a system or the one you’re using now SUCKS, take a look at this simple system that converts higher than anything else I’ve seen and will grow your business quicker that you thought possible.

Thing #5 – Don’t give up.  I saved the best for last.  Things will be tough when you’re getting started.  It may be a little while before you start seeing results, but that’s OK.  Remember, you’ve got your “why” to keep you going when you don’t feel like it.  Don’t give up, your time is coming and it’s coming soon.  Never give up, never surrender!

If you’re like me, you probably get about a million emails in your inbox every day, each one of them screaming at you about the “next big thing” or a new system that will take your business to another level.

You hear people telling you all the time how they did this and that to make an extra 6 bajillion dollars last month and why aren’t you doing it, too.

Every month you’ll see the same marketers releasing something new that is so revolutionary that it will “shake the foundations” of internet and network marketing and let you “get 2,244 leads every day” without so much as lifting a finger.

And, you, like so many of the rest of us, go and take a look at each one of these things and spend way too much of your time deciding if you need to buy this or use that, reading up on this technique and that system, and then you realize something…

The time you set aside to work on your business is gone. You’ve spent two hours chasing bunny trails and reading about someone else’s business and haven’t done a single blessed thing to grow your own.

Let me ask you a question, do you really think you need to know how to generate 2,244 leads in 24 hours if you haven’t called the 7 that you’ve already generated? And even if you do generate 2,244 leads in a day, when are you going to have time to call them all? I know I can’t make that many phone calls in a day and I doubt you can either!

Now don’t get me wrong, spending time in training is vital to your business. You need to learn and grow so that you can get more people in and help your team grow as time progresses. What you don’t need to do is lose your focus on what’s really important.

My point is this, if you will find your focus and keep it, you’ll be headed towards the big money. I used to chase around thinking that I just had to find the right system to make me a ton of money. I’d try one thing and then another, moving on pretty quickly in between. There’s a huge problem with that way of thinking.

If you don’t give things time to “bake” you will never achieve the results you want. I know you’ve probably heard this before, but I’m going to say it to you again and hope that it sinks in this time…

There is no get rich quick plan that works. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

You’re not going to become a millionaire overnight. You’re not going to get to the top of your comp plan in 3 days. You’re not going to recruit 7,000 people in a week. It’s not going to happen. So quit buying into all the emails that tell you that you can.

Find your focus. Keep your eyes on the prize. Work your business every day. Find some way to talk to 30 people every day about your business. Notice I didn’t say get 30 people to look at your business every day, I said talk to 30 people about your business. Most of them won’t take a look, and that’s ok. Most of the ones that do take a look won’t join. And most of the ones that do join won’t ever produce much, that’s just how it is.

Which is why you have to focus and produce every day. You’re out hunting each and every day for the one that will open the door to millions. Most big earners in network marketing will tell you that their business is based on the efforts of a handful of people that they recruited.

Keep that thought in your head as you get started today. Unsubscribe from some email lists if you need to, I certainly have. Learn how to separate the signal from the noise.

Focus on building your business and your dreams will soon be at your doorstep, asking you what took you so long to get here.

I was reading Mark Yarnell’s great book, “Your First Year in Network Marketing” and came across a great quote that simply says:

Success in network marketing is more about attitude than ability.

What Mark was talking about was the fact that the attitude you have each and every day can go a lot further to build your business than any ability that you may have.  you can be the best salesperson in the world but if your attitude stinks, you’re probably not going to bring in very many people to your business.

This is true whether you’re in network marketing or not.  In any area of life, having a good attitude can get you a long way.

So, how do you keep your attitude up?  Simple, avoid negativity.

That sounds simple, but it’s incredibly hard to do in our day and age since we have so many negative things thrown at us every minute of every day.  Here’s a few tips that will help you.

Tip #1 – Stop watching the news. Believe me, if something REALLY earth-shattering is happening, you’ll find out about it.  The news is just negative on top of negative.  Avoid it at all costs.

Tip #2 – Watch as little TV as possible. Most TV shows are crap.  Especially the reality shows that are so popular right now.  I know how easy it is to get sucked in by this garbage, but don’t.  Let Snooki do her thing without you.

Tip #3 – Avoid negative people. There will be people in your life that you have to stay away from if you want to be successful, possibly even some of your close friends and family.  These people don’t want you to succeed and will be forced subconsciously to do everything they can to keep you down.  Avoid them at all costs.

There’s a lot more that you can do to help stay positive but start with these three things.  Avoiding negativity will make you a happier and more prosperous person.  Tomorrow I’ll talk about some things that will help you develop a positive attitude and become a magnet for people to come into your business.

OK, I admit it.  I’m a stubborn mule.  I’m hard-headed and I’m so dogmatic that sometimes I annoy even myself.

I struggle quite a bit with the understanding that I don’t know everything and that I can figure out a better way to do things.  Better than what other people have done.

I also struggle with seeing someone succeed and then hearing how they were able to achieve that level of success by following a ridiculously simple process that didn’t involve spending endless hours of research and pounding their head against the wall.

I’m smack dab in the middle of one of those times in my life right now.  I just finished a fantastic training from a great leader that has already achieved a great deal of success with a new company in a very short period of time.  Very short.

And it just blows me away how simple it was for him to accomplish that.

And then it blows me away even more that I struggle to produce the same results.

Why do I feel that way, you ask?  It’s simple.  I see how simple it was for this great guy to do these things and then I see how much I try to AVOID doing those same things and I get frustrated.

I get frustrated that in my little head I think that it should be harder than what it really is to be successful.  It’s not.

If you are willing to get past yourself and follow a path that has been traveled by other leaders that are being successful, you can find success as well.  But that’s the problem that a lot of us have.  We think that it really CAN’T  be that simple and we have to find a better way to do things.

We want to spend hours and hours trying to find new tactics and tricks to make things happen when we completely ignore what is working and has worked for many, many years for people that are making a lot more money than what we are right now.

Why do we have to be so stubborn?  Why can’t you and I just see that there is a path to success and we just need to follow it?

I think I know what it is: Pride.  I’m a pretty proud person and you probably are, too.  I often feel like that if I don’t do it my way, then I won’t really have accomplished my goals.  I have to feel like I did it, not someone else.  And if I do what someone else did, that’s not really ME doing it.  It’s cheating.

What a load of crap.

I pretty much just slapped myself right in the mouth when I typed that sentence above.  Who am I (or you) to think that I have to find a better way when the way has already been laid out before me?  Why do I struggle so much with following a simple set of steps that ANYONE can do and so many others have followed to success?

That all ends as of right now.  And it needs to end for you, too.  The sooner it does, the sooner you’ll be on your way to real success.

Get over yourself.  Stop thinking that you have to be an innovator and some great creator of new methods and trickery to achieve success.  I don’t have to do that and neither do you.

Stop making it harder than it is.  Notice I didn’t say that it doesn’t require work, it does.  Success doesn’t come to you, you have to go to it.  But you don’t have to cut your own path to get there.

You just follow what others have done and get past yourself to achieve greatness.
