I’ve geeked out for at least part of the day today as I’ve seen the liveblogging of the Apple event in San Francisco. I’m sure there’s a ton of you out there reading this blog that don’t really understand why and I’m not going to try and explain it.
(Thanks to the gang at Engadget for the live blogging and the pic)
Suffice it to say that I’m a huge Apple fanboy and pretty much drool over anything new product they release.
Apple announced the new iPhone today, iPhone 4. A complete redesign of the device that offers many features that users have been asking to have for quite a while.
But let’s not go down the bunny trail of tech babble and fan boy drool -
Let’s talk about what this thing means to your business and why you need to pay attention.
First, let’s talk about video. Unless you’re a complete dipstick, you’re aware that online video is the hot thing right now and the best marketers online are using it to sell all kinds of stuff.
Let’s go on a little journey on the history of creating online video, shall we?
Years ago, you recorded video on a DV camcorder that you had to import the recording in real time. This could, literally, take hours depending on how much video you had. Then, you had to convert it to a different format.
Time consuming, painful, and not at all reliable. Not to mention you needed a pretty beefy computer system to do it all.
Move ahead a couple of years and we start seeing flash camcorders like the Flip. Things got a bit easier. No more real-time importing. And you didn’t have to convert the video.
But if you really wanted to make a good impression, you still had to edit the video. And you still needed a fairly beefy system to do that.
Today, that changes.
With the iPhone 4, you record and edit all on the same device. In HD. In your pocket. Anywhere you are.
No more studio, no more elaborate setup. Just a phone and your thoughts and you’re the next marketing rockstar.
Let that sink in for a minute before you move on.
Now, let’s talk about battery life. With the improved battery life of the iPhone 4, people are going to do more things on their phones for longer periods of time.
More talking. More texting. More music. More videos. More podcasts.
Pay attention to those last two, that’s where the money is for us online business people.
There’s never been a better time to start creating your own podcasts, both audio and video.
And with 3G and Wi-Fi connections, people don’t even have to be hooked to a computer to download new stuff.
They see a link on your website while they’re surfing on their phone and then they hear your content.
Wherever they are, whenever they want.
Do you get it at all yet?
Let’s also mention how many of these phones they’ve already sold and how many more they’re going to sell.
The iPhone represents 28% of the smartphone market. Nearly one-third of all smartphones sold are iPhones.
Think that’s a big market? Would you like to get your content on just a small piece of that market?
If you don’t want to, you’re nuts. Plain and simple.
Keep up with me this week and next. I’ve got some stuff coming for you that’s going to convince you to finally start podcasting.
And you’re going to know exactly how to do it to get the most bang out of your efforts. No sense wasting time.
There’s too many iPhones out there and we’ve got to fill them up with amazing content.
To Your Unending Success,
