Before I get started, let me just say that I don’t knit. Never have, and I’m sure that I probably never will. So I understand your confusion as we start heading into this topic, since I’m going to be talking an awful lot about knitting over the next few minutes that we’re together.
I don’t knit, but I do love stories, so bear with me as we start down the path of this short story, one that you may have heard before in one shape or another, but that is very relevant to our journey as internet and network marketers. Let’s go…
This morning, my beautiful wife was working on a project. A knitting project. Specifically, she was finishing up a beautiful purple scarf for herself. Purple is her favorite color, by the way. However, this was her first knitting project. She got started just fine, but as she was drawing near to the finish, she realized there was a problem. A big problem.
She didn’t know how to finish her scarf. All she would have left is two ends of purple stuff, flailing in the wind and slowly unraveling all of her hard work.
Enter her husband. I look online for some sort of guide or help on “how to finish knitting.” Since this is a task, I thought there had to be a video showing an example. YouTube did not fail me in this eneavor.
One of the first results on YouTube was a 4-minute video on, oddly enough, “How to Finish Knitting.” We learned that this technique is called “casting off” and my wife was able to finish up her scarf after watching the video a few times to get the technique right.
So, what does this mean for you?
When was the last time you created a keyword-targeted video? When was the last time you did a podcast that gave information to your target market?
When did you spend a few minutes writing up a “valuable” blog post or article that actually gave your market some useful information and wasn’t just some link bait to your latest promotion?
Content is king, and he who has the most and highest quality content wins. If you create a bunch of content but give no quality, you’re just a spammer. If you’re the absolute greatest mind in the history of the world and the highest authority on your market but you never give out any information, you might as well not even exist.
The young lady that made this knitting video was just providing information on a subject she was passionate about. My wife watched several more of her videos to learn some different stitches that she didn’t know before. Had this lady offered some type of training or video series, I have no doubt that my wife would have eagerly purchased it or at least signed up to get some more information from her.
And the video quality was not fantastic. Just a camcorder, no fancy graphics, no cool intro theme song, not even credits or a lower third title. Just good, applicable content.
So, are you ready to become a market leader? Do you have what it takes to have people come search you out?
Of course you do. You just have to decide to make it happen. Stop talking about that video that you’re “going to get recorded.” Stop talking about that podcast you “want to get put together.” Stop trying to find ideas for an article and sit own and write one.
Every piece of valuable content you create is just one more step on your path towards success. Start creating your own path today, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you start to see results!
